Studio Diary Pt. 5

It's been a few months since I've posted about the new album but I finally have more news to share. As I previously posted, the band recorded the first half of the new album (yes, we are still thinking on what to call it) at Orion Studios back in the spring. During those sessions, we recorded "Howl", "Insomniac" and "Tear the Sky Down". After some mixing, we then headed back into rehearsal mode and worked on three more songs to record. This past weekend, we met with engineer Joe Tracey (and his assistant Dominic) to begin recording songs "Pearl Grey", "Fever Dreams" and "Fool Again".

On Friday we all met at Orion to set up and mic everyone's instruments. We set up a vocal mic in the main room to get a "scratch" vocal to use as a guideline for later. On Saturday, we tracked the songs, section by section, with a focus on getting good drum takes. We also got some of the bass and guitar at this time as well. On Sunday, we listened to each song over again and added additional takes as needed. By the end of the day on Sunday we had completed drum tracking and much of the bass and guitar, however, Scott and Brandon will head back soon to finalize additional tracks. Plus Brandon still needs to record keyboards. I booked time with Joe in another few weeks to do the main vocals plus any backing tracks.

I'll be sure to keep everyone posted with our progress.

In the meantime, I will need to start being more serious about thinking of album titles!

We have some photos from this past weekend to share with everyone on our website. Click here to see them.
